Empanage complete: total time 104 hrs. 3/12/05: Installed rod end bearings in control surfaces, set clearance, trimed horizontal skins for counterbalance clearance, drilled out control arms for elevators. This is a very tight clearance for the bolt that go's through the main bearing block and needs attention before drilling these out. If to tight the head of this bolt will interfere with the torque tubes...measure twice! Checked for full deflections with no binding 5.5 hrs 3/21/05: Fabricated 1/2 inch strip's from scrap for tip's, epoxied strip's in glass after trimming and fitting. Fuselage (0)
Working on fuselage now. Just built a great set of Rotating Fuselage Stands. They are stronger and more stable than some I have seen on the net.This is a full materials list I used for mine,RV-7, yours may vary slightly.I built these for about 150.00. It took me the better part of two days to figure it out,round up the parts and have the fuselage mounted and spinning. They are made primarily with 1"x2"x1\8 steel rectangular tube. Rear Stand: 2 1x2 @ 11" , 1 1x2 spacer block @ 2 1/2" , 3 1x2@36" , 1 1x2 @36" cut 10 degrees each end , 1 3/8-16x3 gr8 hex cap bolt ,1 3/8 hex nut , 1 3/8x1 1/4 fender washer , 1 1/4-28x3 gr8 hex cap bolt , 1 1/4-28x1 3/4 gr8 hex cap bolt , 4 1/4x1 1/4 fender washer , 1 6x6x1/8 flat stock for gusset , 2 1/4x28 nut Front stand: 3 1x2 @ 36" , 1 1x2 @36" cut 10 degrees each end , 1 1x2 @ 38 3/8" , 2 4"x4" flat steel plate 1/8 , 1 6x6x1/8 flat steel plate for gusset , 1 1 1/2" od x .120 tube @5" , 1 1 3/4 od x .120 tube @ 4 1/4" , 2 alum angle 6061 1/8x1x1 @ 20 1/2" , 1 3/8-16x8 gr8 hex cap bolt , 1 3/8 gr8 sae flat washer , 1 3/8-16 gr8 nut , 4 1/4-28x1 3/4 gr8 hex bolt , 8 1/4 gr8 sae flat washer , 6 1/4-28 gr8 hex nut , 2 1/4-28x1" gr8 hex bolt , 4 1" thickx1 1/2"x1 1/2" wood spacer blocks. Use my pics as a guide: to find center of rotation measure down from longeron that the stab rests on for the rear in the front use the extended line from that same longeron and use the same measurment you used for the back. I used 13 1/2" down front and rear. To find the bolt location on the stand upright use this measurment from the floor to the center of bolt hole should be no less than 30". I used 30" on mine
